A shiny white healthy smile is something that most people want to have. Discolored smiles or a lot of cavities can be the cause of embarrassment for many people. We get discouraged when we have to have a root canal or even if we have braces. Millions of dollars are spent every year trying to perfect smiles and teeth. With simple proper teeth care, those extremely healthy smiles can be easily obtained. It doesn’t have to be a chore or difficult to take care of your teeth. Here are some things that you can start doing right now to improve the health and appearance of your teeth.
Avoid foods that will stain your teeth. A few foods you consume you are fully aware aren’t good for your oral hygiene: sugary treats you discover in the aisle that holds candy is obvious. Yet, which other ones are there? Did you know that sugary gum is bad for you? Increasing the saliva is what chewing gum does, and this profits you by cutting down the bacterium in your mouth, but sweetened gum winds up putting back sugars and crystals that saliva has rinsed away. Chips, hard bread sticks and crackers are not good for your teeth as well. Despite the fact that fruit is basically healthful, dehydrated fruit is horrible for your teeth. And, you don’t want to eat raisins: this probably makes you happy to know. Dehydrated raisins are horrible for your tooth health!
Flossing your teeth should be done daily, preferably at night. Flossing tends to be the least desirable part of dental hygiene. It can be hard to do because it feels so awkward and if not done often enough can also be painful. There are areas that you can get to with floss that you can’t get with a toothbrush. Flossing helps remove the debris that finds its way up into your gums between your teeth. The debris, if left unattended can harden into plaque which then can result in any number of problems. These days flossing can be made easier than it used to be. Flossing can be made easier with pre-threaded floss “sticks” that are inexpensive to buy.
It’s not at all difficult to properly care for your teeth and gums. You hardly have to think about most of these practices. As long as you follow these practices regularly, you should only have to go to the dentist for cleanings and checkups. Yet, simple as these steps are, you still have to do them. Taking proper care of your teeth is a lifelong process you should get into the habit of following. The healthier your mouth is, the healthier you’ll be in general, as the connection between dental health and overall health is now widely recognized by doctors and dentists.
